Amanda specialises in wealth and tax planning, including trusts and alternative structures, inheritance and capital gains tax, and domicile and remittance/residence planning, and charity law and practice. Much of her work is focused on succession, and Amanda stresses that this work at GSC has a far greater remit than you might find in other law firms.
“We don’t just represent individuals,” she explains. “Our work extends to family succession planning for our business clients, so there’s a significant crossover with our corporate work. In many firms, private client departments are siloed. We are not, which enables us to work with our corporate clients on company succession as well as shareholder and director planning.”
“The other aspect which distinguishes us from similarly sized law firms is our international succession work,” adds Amanda. “Clients may be based outside the UK but with assets or family here. They might be based in the UK but not necessarily domiciled here. They may be UK clients with international interests.”
How do GSC clients benefit from Amanda’s work? “We are solving real problems for them,” she responds. “That means working fast, being pragmatic and charging sensibly. At GSC, we stage costs so clients are always in control and never pay for services or advice they don’t need.”
Beating the taxman
“I love saving clients’ money. In my experience clients are happy to pay their fair share of tax; they just don’t want to pay unnecessary tax that might arise as a result of poor (or no) planning. So, finding entirely legal and legitimate ways to secure family wealth for the next generation is always rewarding.”
Amanda finds her succession work similarly rewarding. “The right solution – the right structure – can ensure clients don’t get stuck with succession claims. I help ensure they have an estate or business that can pass smoothly down the generations.”
