Training Contracts/Graduate Recruitment

Our Trainee Solicitors play an important role in the Firm from the outset. We generally recruit two Trainee Solicitors each year.

Trainees are given substantial responsibility based on their personal aptitude. They are involved in all aspects of the Firm's work and are encouraged to have direct client contact and, where appropriate, to have conduct of files.

Much of GSC's work is complex and our Trainee Solicitors are expected to have acquired a sound understanding of the law by completing a law degree or the CPE/PgDL, coupled with the Legal Practice Course. Candidates should also have an analytical mind, commercial approach and positive attitude towards problem solving.

We do not set rigid minimum academic qualifications, although, owing to the volume of applications we receive, trainees with at least a 2:1 degree are more likely to be invited for interview. Whilst Trainees are expected to work hard, GSC does not have a "long hours" culture. We offer a friendly and informal environment with close partner supervision. Successful applicants are given the opportunity to gain experience in all our main areas of work during their time with us.

Future Prospects for Trainees

Future prospects for Trainees who have completed their Training Contract with us depend largely on the candidate and the area of work they wish to specialise in. However, our policy is to regard our Trainees as our potential future partners and that policy is best demonstrated by our current Senior Partner who completed his Articles with GSC over 25 years ago!

Procedure for Application

  1. Candidates should initially send their CV with a hand-written covering letter, addressed to Clive Halperin. If we wish to take your application further, we will contact you and invite you to complete a formal application form and attend an interview.

We regret that owing to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to acknowledge receipt of all applications. However, successful applicants will normally hear from us within three months from the closing date for applications.

If you have any difficulty with submitting a handwritten letter, please contact us

  2. The interview procedure is usually in two stages, although in certain cases a candidate may be invited for a third interview.

  3. GSC are presently recruiting for September 2009 and the closing date for applications is 31 January 2009.

Thank you for your interest in GSC. We would like to wish all would-be Trainees every success in their chosen career in law and look forward to meeting some of you in the near future.
