GSC has vast international experience advising on multi-jurisdictional ventures. Originally the focus was on UK real estate and corporate investments from the Middle East, India and Pakistan. However, with the UK market changes in 2008, its clients were looking to invest elsewhere. A key territory was sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the industries of oil and gas, logistics, restructuring, hospitality and agricultural and real estate development investments. The team’s British and international clients were also looking to new regions such as Azerbajan.
Spanning a Wide Variety of Jurisdictions
The group has acted for corporates and ultra-high-net-worth individuals on work spanning a wide variety of jurisdictions and now benefits from strong connections internationally, especially China, India and Pakistan, Russia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and former CIS countries.
We travel regularly to these jurisdictions to foster client and referral relationships.
Cultural sensitivity and linguistic ability: Our culturally diverse team has an understanding of the cultural sensitivities of clients from these countries, around such things as money and family, which is often missing in more parochial teams. This helps us to act as genuine ‘trusted advisors’ to these families, advising on the totality of their tax and wealth management affairs.
The team’s multilingual capabilities see us speaking over 14 different languages including Dutch, Farsi, Japanese, Urdu, Punjabi, Kiswahili, Kachhi, Hindi and Gujerati.
